Pictures of Lewis Hamilton displayed in London

This weekend Lewis Hamilton may become the first British driver to win the Formula One world championship since Damon Hill in 1996. And marking Hamilton’s achievements this season, a huge painting of the McLaren star has been unveiled near the iconic London landmark, Tower Bridge.

Created by Birmingham-based artist Ian Cook, the portrait is the size of two double-decker buses. Rather than using conventional brushes and rollers, Cook dipped the tyres of 50 radio-controlled cars in paint and steered them around the huge canvas to create the image.

“I’m really excited to be working on this project; Lewis has one of the most famous faces in sport and it has been interesting to capture his image in a style so closely linked to his profession,” said Cook. “I hope lots of people come down to see the finished portrait, it has to be seen to be believed!”

The painting, which was commissioned by one of Hamilton's personal sponsors, will remain on display until November 2nd.
