Remember the chinese maker GEELY,which was in the news recently for acquiring VOLVO from Ford? The same company has again been in the limelight for its development of an all new lost cost car for emerging markets,the GEELY IG.To be priced at just US$ 2250 when launched in the chinese market in 2012,the IG will undercut even the TATA NANO by at least 20-30 percent.The IG will later be launched in several other markets with India being on top of the priority list.The two door 4 seater will be based on the IG show car that was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year.It wil be powered by a 1.0 litre 70ps engine with 5 speed gear box. Officials quoted that the IG will be built to a higher quality than the NANO.GEELY is also studying the feasibility of coming up with an electric version,due for launch somewhere in 2015.Will GEELY actually pull this off?Our fingers are crossed.
