Four factory stock cars lined up on the starting grid. The Briton A.F.P. Fane won hands down in the twolitre class with a BMW 328, while BMW came 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th in the overall rankings. The breakthrough had finally come: alongside Auto Union and Mercedes-Benz, BMW had now developed to become the third most important manufacturer of racing cars in Germany. Winner in the 2l-class Mille Miglia 1938. Driver: Alfred F.P. Fane, William James.
